WHAT IS MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY?
Medical Nutrition Therapy
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is evidence-based nutrition counseling provided by a licensed registered dietitian. It’s a structured, clinical service designed to help you improve specific health concerns. Because MNT is a recognized medical service, it may be covered by your health insurance plan making it a more accessible way to receive expert, personalized nutrition care.

FAQs
Do you take insurance?
At this time, I do not bill insurance directly. However, all Medical Nutrition Therapy sessions are documented in a way that insurance companies typically require. I’m happy to provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Coverage depends on your plan and diagnosis, so I recommend checking with your insurance company ahead of time.
What is the difference between Medical Nutrition Therapy and Functional Nutrition Coaching?
The main difference is how deep we go and how the work is structured:
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Focused on working together during your scheduled sessions
Designed for people with a diagnosis (e.g., diabetes, PCOS, thyroid disorders, digestive conditions) or those needing a structured nutrition/lifestyle/supplement plan
If you choose to add-on functional medicine testing (GI-MAP, DUTCH, etc.), there will be an additional cost for the interpretation and protocol development.
All services are billed and documented in a way that may qualify for insurance reimbursement
Functional Nutrition Coaching
A 4-month deep-dive program that goes beyond session-based care
Ideal for people with unanswered questions, unresolved symptoms, or “everything looks normal but I don’t feel normal” experiences
If you choose to add-on functional medicine testing (GI-MAP, DUTCH, etc.), the interpretation and protocol development are included in the cost of the coaching package.
Includes messaging, check-ins, and between-session support (not covered by insurance)
Root-cause focused with a broader, more comprehensive plan
Can I do just one session?
Yes. While packages offer better results (and cost savings), you can book a single session if you prefer. Email me at kelley@attherootnutrition.com for more information.
Is lab testing included?
Lab testing is not included in any package but can be added on. Testing will require an additional price for the interpretation and protocol development with an MNT package. If you’re interested in exploring many functional medicine tests, the 4-month functional medicine package may be a better option for you as the interpretation and protocol are included in the cost of this package.
